When I first got my horse, Maggie, she was very anxious. Her job in the herd was to watch out for danger.

In her mind, I was a danger to her herd, because I would take her away from them.  So every time I went out to catch her, Maggie would take off running.

I spent many hours tromping around our pasture, forcing her to keep moving until she stopped running from me.  The only time she could rest was if she let me walk up to her.  Many times she would stop and just as I got close, she would take off again.

Then one day it hit me: this is what I do with God.

He comes to me, but I don’t trust him to take care of me, so I run away. If I would just stop and let him get close, I could rest, but I just keep running until I’m too tired to run anymore. I am so thankful that He keeps pursuing me until I finally stop running and find my rest in him.
